Old Friends from the Series...

Joyce Summers-

Joyce was Buffy’s mom and therefore Dawn’s and (spiritually/mentally) Buffy Rebecca’s...She died of an aneurism following successful treatment for a brain tumor...She also had received the monks’ artificial memories of Dawn and took her for her child until her illness exposed Dawn’s artificial nature to her...

Buffy is secretly tormented by the thought that her mom’s death was a little too convenient for the monks who desparately wanted her emotionally bound to Dawn as strongly as possible in order to force her to protect the Key with her life...

Willow Rosenberg-

Buffy’s best friend since she came to Sunnydale, Willow started as a computer geek who became Giles’ best research assistant and eventually began practicing magic becoming a witch (Wiccan).

She had long been in love with Xander Harris but has since become involved with Tara Maculay, a fellow Wiccan.

She is in general a gentle, loving, and sympathetic person...Who can be tough whenever defending her friends requires it...And who has seen her own darker side....

Willow has developed enormous power in the course of the series, and now apparently exceeds Giles’ abilities in magic by far. She remains a terrific researcher.

Rupert Giles-

Buffy’s beloved Watcher, appointed to assist the Slayer in her fight by the Council of Watchers based in England...He is also a sorcerer of considerable ability but has generally limited his use of magic as he apparently once tended to abuse his powers as a young man...He is a skilled researcher and has in the past masked his true work by working as the Sunnydale High librarian and more recently as the owner of the Magic Shop...

His relationship with Buffy has become that of a father, especially as her own father has had very little contact over the years...

He is extremely reserved and tends to embarass easily, the image of a middle-aged British scholar. However this is in a part a pose which masks a very dark side which he has struggled against in the past...He can be utterly ruthless in defending Buffy, although he realizes that it is best to keep to his own job in most situations as it might endanger the Slayer fight with her...

Xander Harris-

Alexander is Buffy’s surrogate big brother...Once in love with her, he has developed a charming and unselfish devotion to her which makes him ready to fight for and with her on any occasion...

He was the object of Willow’s affection for years but failed to return her feelings until too late...He later was involved with Cordelia Chase who, after their breakup over his brief affair with Willow, called forth a vengeance demon, Anya to punish him...The vengeance backfired with Anya defeated by the gang, and regaining her humanity as a result. She then fell in love with Xander and they have been a couple since...

Xander is always well meaning but sometimes can be a little dense and clutsy...He currently works as a carpenter when not fighting evil with Buffy.

Tara Maculay-

Tara attends U-Cal Sunnydale with Buffy and Willow and is a practicing Wiccan (witch). She and Willow have become a couple over the last two years...

Tara is a shy and gentle person who has considerable ability though not as great as Willow’s...She is more fearful of their powers as well...Her character has been more at ease with the gang recently as she became less of an outsider and she now fights with them...

Anya-

A human turned into a vengeance demon hundreds of years ago and restored when the gang destroyed her link to the demon dimension, Anya is relearning her human skills slowly with Xander’s help...She works for Giles at his store and has developed a taste for it...

She tends to say what everyone thinks and often is inappropriate but hilarious...She has a dread of rabbits...from her demon days

Buffy Summers-

The chosen Slayer, given the superhuman strength to kill the demons and vampires of the world who emerge by way of the Hellmouth, a portal to the underworld opening in Sunnydale...She struggles to maintain a semblance of a normal young woman’s life while battling evil with her friends...

She has made the decision to operate differently from other Slayers in that she keeps friends and family close by...This has been a source of great strength to her and allowed her to outlive most Slayer life-spans...But comes at a price as she realizes she is putting those she loves in constant danger of what may be worse than death...

In general a deeply loving and sympathetic person, her Slayer work requires her to shield her heart from those evil ones who would manipulate it...She can therefore seem almost callous at times in her dealings with vampires and other evil forces...And at times even with humans. She fears that her work may in fact lead to her becoming unable to love. And dreads where the darker nature of the Slayers may eventually lead her...

Dawn Summers-

Dawn appears to be a human teenager and is remembered by all as Buffy’s little sister...However she is the Key, an source of incredible energy, given human form and memory by the monks of Benedictus to keep the Key out of the hands of Glory. She only appeared in the series this year but due to the monks’ manipulations, all including Buffy had complete memories of a life with her...

She was unaware of her true nature...Buffy was told of it by a surviving monk while fighting Glory...And eventually Dawn overheard her discussing it...

Buffy’s feelings for Dawn are extremely strong as the monks intended...In the BR series, however, Buffy is a little more ambivalent as to whether she loves Dawn freely and at times clearly resents the burden the monks placed on her without her consent...

Dawn is gentle, loving, sympathetic, and bratty by turns...She has a fondness for Spike and has had a crush on Xander which she is outgrowing...She was devastated to learn of her true nature...And fears what Buffy and the others may really think of her now...

Angel-

Angel appeared as a mysterious helper to Buffy and her friends early on and was later revealed to be a vampire...With the sadistic and feared Angelis as his demon. Cursed by the gypsy father of one of his victims to regain his human soul...and the remorse that comes with it, Angel is not allowed to experience pure happiness without losing his soul and the redemption he has been painfully earning. Therefore, although he and Buffy are deeply in love, he has learned at great cost to himself and Buffy that he cannot be with her without the danger of losing out to Angelis...At least until his redemption is complete...

He now works in LA, running a unique investigation agency with the help of Cordelia and Wesley which fights demons and evil of all sorts...But occasionally travels to Sunnydale to see his beloved...

He’s noble and true...A bit overbroody and solemn about his “mission” at times...Spike, even in reformed mode, sometimes finds him hard to take...Though Spike never cared much for Angelis either...

He is sire vampire to Drusilla...And therefore Spike’s grandsire...

Cordelia ("Cordy)

Cordelia Chase was a “Heathers”-ish classmate of Buffy’s who maintained an intense rivalry with her until she learned of Buffy’s role as Slayer...She became friends of a sort with Buffy and her gang and assisted them until her graduation when she moved to LA for an acting career...having failed to be accepted at college...

In LA, she wound up working for Angel Investigations, the agency run by Angel...

She learned in the course of her work with the gang that she is somewhat clairvoyant and has prophetic visions at times...

She has moved from “Valley Girl” persona to perky team player and has had a relationship with Xander which broke up when he had a brief affair with Willow...She and Wesley are tentatively relating...

Wesley (Wes)-

Wesley was a member of the Council of Watchers sent to supervise Faith the Slayer who replaced Kendra the Slayer who died at Drusilla’s hands...Kendra having been summoned after Buffy’s brief death at the hands of the Master...He was insecure in the job and therefore arrogant and demanding...Which played a role in Faith rejecting him, the Council, and good in general and turning to her darker side after she accidently killed a human...As a result of his failure with Faith, he was expelled from the Council...

He has since that hard lesson redeemed himself and now works for Angel in LA...

Very British still, but much less arrogant, he is sometimes overanxious to do what he can to redeem his failures but in general has become a steadfast fighter against evil and a loyal friend to Angel...

the Master-

A powerful vampire and Buffy’s first nemesis...He attempted to open the Hellgates of the portal at Sunnydale about 60 years ago and was trapped between dimensions, forcing him to use minions on earth to carry out his plans...He briefly succeeded in escaping by killing Buffy but on her CPR revival by Xander was himself killed by her...

His brief escape involved a partial opening of the Hellgates for an instant...Which in the Buffy Rebecca verse allowed Glory enough energy to begin escaping the constraints binding her between dimensions...

the Anointed One

A powerful child vampire...the Master arranged for his birth as part of fulfilling the prophecy that led to his brief escape from his between dimensions prison...He briefly took over as head of the Sunnydale vamps until Spike killed him...Nicknamed the "Annoying One" by Spike...

Dracula-

Handsome and charming Dracula came to Sunnydale early in season five specifically to defeat Buffy and make her his latest bride...He succeeded in placing her in thrall to him for a brief time but she overcame and destroyed him...She hates admitting that she was under his spell for even a brief time...

Darla-

An old vampire, sired by the Master...She sired Angel and is one of the more powerful vamps ever on the series...She seems to possess considerable humanity at times, even to the extent of having some feeling for her vamp “family” of Angel, Dru, and Spike... but is clearly very bitter over her fate...Not to mention over losing her Angelis to Angel...And Buffy...

Although Buffy knows her, she is a master of disguise and has changed her appearance many times...

Characters altered from the series-

Dreg-

Dreg was a very minor minion character of Glory’s on the series, a member of her Brethren...Squat, scabby demonic worshippers of the goddess...

In the Buffy Rebecca verse he plays a considerable role as Glory’s Chief Minion and Commander of her legions (alas, rather small legions in the modern world) and a romantic relationship has developed between him and his goddess...

Normally humble and deferrential in the extreme, becoming Glory’s “significant other” has given him a considerable boost in self-esteem...And as she is somewhat helpless to fulfill her plans much of the time, he has been forced to gradually show more initiative in assisting his goddess...

Brave and even rather sweet at times..He is convinced of the justice of Glory’s cause to the exclusion of all other considerations..

Glory-

Glorificus, a mighty goddess, became Buffy’s nemesis in season five when she learned that Buffy had been assigned the job of protecting the energy Key that Glory needs to open the portal to her home dimension...

In the Buffy Rebecca verse, Glory is the former Roman goddess of Glory and Victory who was deeply embittered and humilated by the destruction of her Altar of Victory (the portal through which she communicated with her Roman worshippers) by the Roman emperor Gratian, a devout young Christian...She rushed to Rome in 382, bent on wreaking havoc on all humanity but was stopped by her counterpart god, Benedictus and trapped between dimensions until the Master briefly opened the Hellgates at Sunnydale...Since then she has had enough energy to briefly poke into our world, searching for her lost energy Key which was contained in her Altar and would give her enough neural energy to break loose all of Benedictus’ restaints...

She has no idea of where or what form the Key is...Only that Buffy is keeping it from her...

She is beautiful, megalomanic, brutal, and served devotedly by the Brethern...She will stop at nothing to regain the Key and has proven to be much more powerful than Buffy...Her only weaknesses are her need of neural energy to maintain herself in our world, and Benedictus’ hold on her.

In the BR verse she is also rather affectionate at times towards her Chief Minion and her rage at the ungrateful Romans can seem almost justified...Not meriting world destruction, however..

Ben-

In the BR verse, Glory’s benevolent counterpart (“brother”) god, Ben (Benedictus) is god of Healing and Mercy and is considered a Christian saint...

In order to keep Glory, his “mean sister”, back he has been forced to remain on Earth where he is immortal but powerless...And honored by a special order of monks...Who are determined to keep him on earth by preventing the loss of the Key to Glory...

His medical training has allowed him to function as a doctor in our world, although he is generally employed by the monks at their monastery in Greece...He has moved to Sunnydale because Glory has...As they are intertwined...

Harmony
Harmony Kendall, an old classmate of Buffy's and her friends...Very Valley Girl/Heather-ish, and remains so even now when she is a vampire...

She is often surprised by the reaction of old friends to her attempts to renew old ties...

Spike's girl for a brief time...Before BR's appearance...

She was rescued by Xortox Labs, employer of Warren and later "Dr." Walthrop aka Spike...And has gone to work for the company herself, using her own unique talents to assist the big boss, Dr. Severn in his quest for immortality...
